Leading gas fire manufacturer Valor has pledged its support to the extension of the Heating and Hot Water Industry Council’s (HHIC) Benchmark member scheme, to help improve the standard and safety of gas fire installations.
From 1st January 2016 the scheme will cover the installation of gas fires and Valor will be including a HHIC gas fire commissioning checklist in packaging for all products. Installers are asked to complete the voluntary checklist and leave with the customer.
The Benchmark member scheme is a nationally recognised scheme that places the responsibilities on both manufacturers and installers to ensure best practice in installation, commissioning and servicing of domestic heating and hot water products in line with Building Regulations in England and Wales. It is managed and promoted by the HHIC.
Tracey Falshaw, product marketing manager for Valor, said: “As a reputable manufacturer with a long history of gas fires excellence, we support any initiative which can ensure the safe installation of gas fires and we are delighted that the Benchmark scheme has been extended to fires.
“We worked closely with the HHIC to compile this specific checklist for fires and we are proud to say that we are one of the first gas fire manufacturers to get behind the Benchmark initiative.
“It will only take five minutes of the installer’s time, but this check list will place gas fires on the same standing as gas boilers, giving added reassurance that will be welcomed by consumers and professional installers alike.”
